The Juliette Gordon Low birthplace is the setting for a family story that was entwined in the history of the city, state, and nation for four generations.
This house represents far more than the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low. The house was designed by William Jay for future Supreme Court Justice
James Moore Wayne about 1819. Sophisticated but
comfortable, the house makes a warm impression and is a fine example of regency style architecture.
The birthplace was the first registered National Historic landmark in Savannah. Elegantly restored to the late 1800’s period in the aesthetic style, as it was arranged by the time of the wedding of Juliette Gordon to William Mackay Low in 1886. The home features many original family furnishings and is enhanced by its Victorian garden and original out buildings.
It exhibits examples of late 19th Century decorative arts and provides an introduction to life in the 19th Century.
The History Channel says that Savannah is one of the most haunted cities in North America. On a recent episode of their series Haunted Cites, Haunted Savannah, this house was featured prominently. The most documented sighting in Savannah
was reenacted and the nephew of Juliette Gordon Low was interviewed.
Learn about Juliette’s grandmother, a widow of 35 years who lived with William Washington Gordon II and his wife Eleanor Kinzie Gordon in this magnificent mansion and how their joyous and happy life have
led many to believe they are in the home still.
