Anna, the Romantic Poltergeist
The 17Hundred90 is Savannah’s oldest operating inn and its fourteen romantic rooms are a favorite with honeymooners. However, the inn’s history holds a tragedy and the building itself is home to one of Savannah’s most famous and active ghosts. The orginal townhouse at the inn’s location, 225 East President Street, was originally built for Steele White, a wealthy merchant, in the 1790s. White, in his 60s, imported a child bride from Ireland and kept her in a room, now room 204 in the inn, until time for the wedding.
Anna, the reluctant girl threw herself from the roof of the inn rather than go through with the marriage. She broke her neck and died in room 204 12 hours later. She was dead but not gone. Visitors to the inn frequently encounter her. Sometimes they see Anna, other times they hear her. She’s a poltergeist, a noisy ghost. More about Anna
